How could your business make the world better place?
To make you think about your purpose, then act upon it to make the world a better place
It's not about doing things better, but doing better things
We want to provoke you to reflect about who you are connected to and the feelings your company’s actions arouse in those organisations. How your activities impact our planet; our atmosphere, our land, our oceans and all life that inhabits it.
Here at purpose AMPLIFIED, we believe that being clear about your purpose is the catalyst to making a positive impact through your business activities. If we, as a society, are going to tackle the climate emergency then business has to step up, and quickly. We'll help you to amplify your own positive actions to your network of stakeholders and be an engine of change. We're building an ecosystem whose output will be greater than the sum of its parts. Read about what makes up our own DNA here.
Whether you've got your purpose all worked out but don't know what to do next, you want to amplify your positive impact - or even if you just have a nagging feeling keeping you awake at night that you should be doing something but don't know where or how to start, then purpose AMPLIFIED is here to help. Take a look at what we offer, draw inspiration from the stories of pioneering purposeful companies, read one of our blogs, or dive straight in and talk to us. If not now, when?
Being part of something bigger than ourselves matters a lot to us - here are two organisations close to our hearts
The Better Business Act
One way we can build back better
If business is going act in a more responsible way as we build back better, it’s going to need some help. The campaign for a new Better Business Act will enable companies to create good jobs, add value to society and take responsibility for their impact - exactly the sort of thing purpose AMPLIFIED stands for.
We have joined a coalition of more than 2000 businesses calling for a straightforward legislative solution: the Better Business Act will amend section 172 of The Companies Act to ensure that company directors are responsible for advancing the interests of shareholders alongside those of society and the environment.
We declare a climate emergency
Business Declares is a fast-growing network of companies that recognise the Climate and Ecological Emergency the planet faces. Although we're still a (very) young business with a relatively small impact, it's important for us to acknowledge our responsibility to society from the beginning.
purpose AMPLIFIED is proud to be joining this network as it very much aligns with our thinking. It's in our DNA to amplify our own voice and we do so as part of the collective, resounding call for change. We'll be making our own commitments starting with a target of becoming Net Zero by the end of 2024 (for Scope 1 & 2 emissions).
Why work with purpose AMPLIFIED?
Because we'll accelerate the positive impact of your business
Every pioneer could use some help
The road to becoming a sustainable business rarely looks like this one. It's complex and messy, with plenty of twists and turns - and the odd roadblock. Think of us as your satnav but with a difference. Getting clarity about your purpose as a business will not only help you work out your destination but make your route easier to follow too. Through the B Corp framework we can analyse what you're doing well and spot opportunities for doing better, bringing your whole team along with you.
If you want to be that hero company that is doing good in the world - one that others look to for inspiration - then let's talk.
A word about our purpose
Making our own positive impact
It's important that we live what we believe in from the start. In time as purpose AMPLIFIED develops and grows we'll make further public commitments to accelerate our own mission, including, naturally, certifying as a B Corp ourselves. The climate emergency demands action now, but the seeds of change we plant in your business can take time to bear fruit. We're in it for the long haul - while there are still companies that want to re-think their purpose and make a positive impact we'll be there to guide them. Learn more about what makes us tick in this blog post.
A word about our founder
Paul Coverdale - B Leader
I'm Paul Coverdale, the founder of purpose AMPLIFIED. I am a passionate believer in the potential - and obligations - of business to help make the world a more sustainable and just place. Ever since I first heard about the B Corp movement in 2015 while researching my MSc thesis I've wanted to amplify its message. I hope you'll join me in doing the same.
As a B Leader, I've been trained by B Lab UK in all aspects of certifying as a B Corp. My connections with UK B Corp owners and employees, the B Lab UK team and others in our ecosystem give me a wealth of resources and knowledge to draw upon, which I've already put to good use with my clients. I've had an interesting career - find out a little more about me below.
A new kind of business that balances purpose and profit
What are B Corporations?
The business equivalent of what FSC is to paper or LEED is to a building.
Certified B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance. They take a holistic view of the purpose of their business and the impact of the decisions they make on their workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment lies at the heart of their culture and strategy. It is a certification scheme open to any business, of any size, in any sector. Since its founding in 2006 a growing community of impact leaders is driving a global movement of people using businesses as a force for good. You can read more about B Corp in our On Purpose blog.
Since launching in the UK in 2015, more than 300 companies based here have now certified as B Corps. They range from well known high street brands like the Body Shop and Innocent Drinks, to one person start-ups, professional services firms and everything in between. We were very proud to have played a part in helping Winchester based agency Studio Republic become a B Corporation at the end of 2019 and are already working with new clients.
Many companies claim to be sustainable, to have an altruistic reason for existing. Here are just five B Corps (we could have picked others) that have clearly defined their purpose and made it fundamental to the business. They look beyond financial profit to create a positive impact and help to tackle global challenges. As importantly, they amplify their stories to tell the world how it can be done to show the way for others. It is businesses like these that inspire us to do what we do, and hopefully they'll inspire you too. We're happy to advocate their work, and one day we'll do it for your business too.
